Tenugui “Kama Wa Nu”

Edo Komon is a fine pattern for Kimono created in the Edo period. The pattern, “Kamawanu” was used for the costume by the Kabuki actor, Ichikawa Danjuro VII, and became popular in the Edo period. This is a striped pattern consisting of a drawing of a sickle (Kama), a circle (Wa) and the character for Nu. It is a play on words, since, when Kama Wa Nu is spoken, it means, ‘I don’t mind.’
