古布と藍染め

【New arrival】Vintage × Indigo dyed crafts

古布作品

Rare vintage cloth from the early Showa period.

“Kofu” (vintage cloth) was used in the early Showa period (1926-) for “Kimono” and “Hanten” (livery coat).

We used Kofu (vintage cloth)  which is hard to find today, and remade them into pouches, mats and other pieces that fit into present-day life.

古布の和雑貨

Small patchwork of vintage and indigo-dyed fabrics.

“Kofu” (vintage cloth) and plain indigo-dyed cloth are combined and reworked into a patchwork piece. The combination differs from one piece to another and is a rare, one of a kind item.

Indigo dyes are said to be ”living dyes”, and their colours take root in the fabric over a period of five or ten years, giving the colours a deeper appearance. Japanese indigo dyeing is popular abroad and is a great Japanese souvenir.

Enjoy the fascination of Japanese craftsmanship while using works made from re-used vintage fabrics that are eco-friendly.
