【In-Store Exclusive】 Vintage Showa Fabrics × Indigo-Dyed Creations
Vintage fabrics once used for kimonos, bedding, and traditional work jackets (hanten) in the early Showa era are now extremely rare and difficult to find. A new collection of handcrafted items, created by combining these precious vintage textiles with indigo-dyed fabrics, is now available.
Weaving Stories from the Early Showa Era — The Legacy of Vintage Japanese Fabrics
In early Showa-era Japan, vintage fabrics were an integral part of daily life. Whether used in kimonos, bedding, or traditional work jackets known as hanten, these textiles were treasured and passed down through the seasons. Featuring botanical motifs inspired by nature and intricate Edo Komon patterns such as seigaiha (waves), sayagata (interlocking patterns), and yabane (arrow feathers), each piece carries a sense of “Japanese modern” from that time. With their modest yet refined aesthetic, these fabrics are like miniature works of art—each possessing a unique character that cannot be replicated through mass production.
Today, such vintage fabrics are rarely found, and acquiring them is becoming increasingly difficult. In response to this rarity, we have revived these historical materials by pairing them with solid indigo-dyed cloth to create contemporary handcrafted items. The result is a series of one-of-a-kind pieces that blend the quiet beauty of the past with the fresh sensibility of the present.
