Our “Art Frame and Art Tenugui” series has been officially selected as a Tokyo souvenir under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Tokyo Tokyo promotion. It is recognized as a product that conveys the charm and value of Tokyo.
Each Tenugui is dyed using the traditional Chusen hand-dyeing technique and presented in an art frame, allowing it to be enjoyed as both a piece of interior art and a cultural gift. This Tenugui is dyed based on an Edo-period Rimpa painting, depicting Mt. Fuji — a sacred mountain long revered as the dwelling place of the gods — together with winter birds flying over a waterside landscape. The refined sense of wabi-sabi, an aesthetic unique to Japanese culture, can be felt throughout the composition.
Mt. Fuji, Japan’s highest and most iconic peak, has been worshipped as a sacred site since ancient times and has inspired countless works of art and literature. The word Fuji also echoes the meanings of “immortality” (fushi) and “everlasting youth,” while its broad, elegant shape symbolizes prosperity, harmony, and success.

This design is based on the celebrated woodblock print from One Hundred Famous Views of Edo by Utagawa Hiroshige, one of the most renowned ukiyo-e masters of the Edo period. It depicts a view from the Suijin no Mori grove at Sumidagawa Shrine on the east bank of the Sumida River, looking toward Massaki on the opposite shore. In the foreground, blooming double cherry blossoms frame the scene, while distant Mt. Tsukuba — not actually visible from this location — adds a poetic sense of depth.
The Sumida River area has long been famous for its cherry blossoms, and Hiroshige often depicted the serene landscape of Massaki Inari in his works. This classic masterpiece, representing the spirit of Edo culture, also inspired Western Impressionist painters such as Vincent van Gogh.
