Art Tenugui "Ryokomochi Stripe"
Textiles with a stripe pattern were first brought from China and South Asian countries around the 16th or 17th century. After the production began in Japan in the Edo period, various stripe patterns were created and became popular among the townspeople.
One of them is called Ryokomochi stripe, consisting of one thick central line with one thin line on each side, derived from the word Ryokomochi meaning mother having one child on each side.
